Her notes
I never set out to become a politician. I began as a teacher, a seeker, and an English professor who stepped into the newsroom as editor for the women’s pages of The Post. While I was expected to focus on fluff—fashion and celebrity news—I instead told stories of women scarred by acid, bartered like cattle, or silenced by culture disguised as faith. My pen became a tool of confrontation, and journalism became a movement. I carried these stories from the page to the streets, the courts, and eventually, into parliament—driven by the conviction that Islam stands for dignity and justice, not control or oppression.
In 2008, I entered the Provincial Assembly of Punjab determined not just to pass laws, but to rewrite narratives. I fought for protections against honor killings, economic injustice, and political exclusion, especially for women and the poor. My journey—through journalism, governance, and spiritual activism—has always been about awakening others to their worth and power. Today, I continue that mission not as a politician, but as a woman committed to transformation, offering clarity, courage, and the belief that our lives matter—not just in theory, but in purposeful action.
